Snoring is an ever-increasing problem affecting over 40 million Americans and more specifically, the bed partners of those who snore. While habitual loud snoring is often described for its comical attributes, it can be a significant source of disturbed sleep, lack of concentration, and daytime fatigue for both snorer and housemates. Typical efforts to minimize the “second most obnoxious sound a human can make” include anti-snore sprays (ineffective), earplugs, going to sleep before the snorer sleeps, and separate bedrooms.
A fraction of those who snore have a serious medical problem called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The doctors of NEO Associates are skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of snoring and OSA. There are many ways to treat each of these problems and those treatments are tailored to the needs of each individual.
Treatments may include non-surgical and surgical methods. Most insurance companies will pay for the evaluation of snoring and OSA, and the treatment of OSA. Unfortunately all insurance companies and Medicare consider the treatment of snoring “not medically necessary” and thus will not pay for these treatments.
We offer effective and low-cost options for the treatment of obnoxious loud snoring including injection snoreplasty. This office procedure requires one to two treatment three months apart that effectively stiffens the “floppy” tissue in the back of the throat including the uvula and soft palate. This is the “floppy” tissue responsible for snoring. Injection snoreplasty is economically and easily performed in our office with no lost work or significant recovery required.
